Quality Manager

This position is an on-site position to manage the overall plant quality system, quality audits and product testing. This person is responsible for the supervision of Quality Engineers, Quality Associates and Process Specialists.

Essential Functions

* Oversees manufacturing-related processes are in control and that all product produced at the facility meets the requirements of the end-use customer.

* Ensures that process conditions are monitored and controlled for product consistency and according to the specified conditions.

* Ensures that the products and process changes are made only according to the sequence of activities specified in the MSA/CSA process.

* Oversees the testing in accordance with Avient Lab Performance Policy and that all product grading is accomplished in a timely and accurate manner.

* Represents the plant and Avient in all aspects of professional dealings with customers, the technology community and the commercial group.

* Leads all quality audits.

* Resolves and communicates on customer complaints and handles technical and quality questions from internal and external sources.

* Coordinates investigation and corrective action on all plant related customer complaints.

* Assesses training needs and provides training to lab/production employees.

* Ensures that attendance issues are reported and handled in accordance with the attendance policy.

* Ensures plant lab-area housekeeping is maintained in "Tour Ready" conditions at all times in accordance with housekeeping guidelines.

* Administers performance appraisals of production associates. Establishes, communicates and provides timely feedback to assigned workforce on objectives, goals and expectations.

* May need to travel on occasion.

* Supports the vision, mission and guiding principles of the company.

* Follows applicable ISO, EH&S rules and guidelines while performing any procedure.

* Complies with and enforces all company policies and procedures.

* Other projects / duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymers or equivalent required.
  • 10+ years' experience in dispersion chemistries and/or polymer colorant technologies strongly preferred. Advanced degree a significant plus.
  • Expertise in liquid oil-based dispersion product formulation and manufacturing processes related to specialty chemical color and/or additives.
  • Experience in the chemical/physical means of optimizing dispersion stability, rheological properties to ensure fitness of use, and means of characterization.
  • Knowledge of the properties and processing of thermoplastic polymers such as PET, PVC, PE, PP, PS.
  • Working knowledge of analytical/physical testing techniques.
  • Knowledge of color science a significant plus.
  • Demonstrated experience in management of the activities, projects, and professional development of direct reports.
  • Ability to travel (as needed) to support the evaluations and commercialization of new products.
  • Ability to manage and advance several projects simultaneously to maximize business impact.
  • Exceptional proficiency with Microsoft Office including PowerPoint and Excel.

* Be able to communicate orally and in writing.

* Must be able to read at a level of comprehension sufficient to meet job requirements.

* This position will also work in the applications lab at times along with occasionally supporting customer trials that would take place in a production environment.
