Job Summary

South Mountain Community College is currently seeking a Fiscal Specialist Senior. This position acts as a lead worker and is responsible for the college-wide processing and communications for all procurement of purchase orders, the procurement card (ProCard) cycles, and travel authorizations. This position additionally provides oversight maintaining the college Chart of Accounts and maintaining the Business Services website. The position serves as the lead trainer for business services/fiscal department and provides complex support and assignments in addition to providing data and financial reports for the college community adhering to all administrative regulations, policies and procedures. This incumbent demonstrates high level of commitment to teamwork, provides support to the Director of Business Services in ensuring goals and objectives are met.

Essential Functions

45% Provides coordination and completion for the procurement processes and functions for the college community. Actively and annually trains the college community in group, one on ones, in budget, procurement, procurement card cycles, and any updates to the policies, procedures, regulations, etc.

20% Performs complex budget analysis; interprets financial data, researches financial information and resolves financial discrepancies, processes budget transfers and journals, and creates financial reports.

20% Includes maintaining the chart of account and communications on the college website for the procurement and travel information to ensure timeliness and accuracy.

15% Provides back up support to the student financial services (cashiering) functions due to absence or illness, co-manages part-time employees providing work direction, and performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution and two years of fiscal support experience related to area of assignment.

OR

An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.

Desired Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
  2. Three (3) years of experience working with an online financial management system, preferably Peoplesoft.
  3. Experience working in an educational setting in a fiscal, financial, or accounting position.
  4. Experience developing policy manuals or procedures and/or lead training on financial policies or procedures.
  5. Experience working with excel spreadsheets and word processing software such as Microsoft Office Suite.
  6. Two (2) years of experience working with financial resources (e.g. general operating fund, auxiliary funds, capital funds, grant funds), monitoring and financial reporting.
  7. Demonstrated knowledge of general accounting principles, internal controls, and record keeping.
